Why do some people complain of stomach upset after drinking milk?

There are many people around us who cannot digest milk. Their stomach gets upset as soon as they drink milk and this problem comes again and again whenever they consume milk.

To know the reason for this, we have to go into the depths of science a little. Milk contains lactose which is a type of carbohydrate. When we drink milk or eat milk items, there is an enzyme called lactase present inside our body, this enzyme breaks down that lactose into glucose, which gives us energy. In young children, this lactase enzyme is produced in large quantity. But with increasing age, its formation starts decreasing. In old age, it becomes so less that the problem of digestion also starts due to the consumption of milk.

When a person has a bowel disorder, the production of lactase in it temporarily stops. This condition or this disease is called lactose intolerance. There are about 75% of people in the whole world who become a victim of lactose intolerance as soon as they become adults. For its treatment, people eat lactase-containing tablets so that milk or milk products can be easily digested. Dogs and cats are more prone to lactose intolerance. According to a report 90% of Chinese and Japanese while 97% of Thailand people have this lactose intolerance problem. This is the reason why dairy products are rarely found on Chinese hotel menus.
