Henry Cavendish was so shy that he never talked to any woman

We must have seen such people, scientists, leaders, journalists in our society who are very good orators and are not afraid to speak in front of anyone. They mesmerize the audience with their style of speaking. It is also believed that the higher the rank of a person, the better is the speaker. Although there are exceptions, there are some people who do not like to appear in front of others and neither do they like the light of fame. They just want to be alone.

Today we are going to talk about such a great scientist who was so shy that even if someone looked at him, he used to leave immediately. The extent of his shyness was so much that he did not even like to see women far from talking to them. We are talking about the great scientist Henry Cavendish who discovered hydrogen gas, the same hydrogen gas which is known as the lightest gas in the world.

Henri Cavendish was born in France in 1971. At the time of his birth, his mother was very ill, his mother died as soon as he was 2 years old. His further upbringing was done by his father. Perhaps this must have been the reason that being the only one in the house, he became shy in nature. Since childhood, he was of old-style and used to wear old-style clothes. He was also made fun of because he had put on his grandfather's clothes.

One biography describes him as being so shy that he seemed to have contracted a disease of shyness. He did not like it at all when someone used to introduce him in front of others that he is a great scientist who has made such a big discovery. He used to get angry on this formal introduction also.

There is a mention of a meeting about him in which at the house of Sir Joseph Banks he was introduced to an Austrian man who greatly admired his work. The Austrian man told Cavendish that he had specially come from London to meet him. He said many more things in his praise, how he is a great scientist of that time. But in response, Cavendish could not say a word in shame, just stood silently with his eyes down.

Once he was introduced to a meeting, as soon as his name was taken in the crowd, he immediately left the place and ran towards his car so fast that, sitting in that car, he reached directly to his house. He did not like to talk and meet anyone in society at all and he always avoided meeting anyone as far as he could. He could only talk to one person at most at a time. He never addressed any gathering in his life. He could only talk to his family or to men he knew. There are very few descriptions in which he has spoken to a woman. He followed the old customs and used to wear clothes from the old fashion. He didn't even get married his whole life.

He never even talked to his maid also. While keeping a maid in the house, he used to put a condition in advance that she would never come in front of him or talk to him, if she needed anything or had to tell something, she would tell it by writing it on paper. If the maid did not follow this rule, she would be fired from his job. Whenever he had to talk to his maid, he always wrote on paper and kept it on the table of the veranda and used to get her answer written on the paper too. Not only this, he had installed a ladder directly from the back of the house to his room so that he could never face the maid. He used to do all these tantrums because he was so shy to such an extent and especially more than women.
